2018-03-07 eng The Observatoire of Villefranche sur Mer supports the daily sampling of zooplankton since 1966 at a time series station located at the entrancy of the Bay of Villefranche sur Mer. Samples were collected by a horizontal tow at 5 layers, using a Regent net. The sampling site is located at the mouth of the Bay over a bathymetry of 80m and is thus open to the Ligurian Sea. Zooplankton abundance was counted by specialist at OOV under microscopes. Metadata GBIF Dataset Type Vocabulary: http://rs.gbif.org/vocabulary/gbif/dataset_type.xml zoobenthos none Mediterannean Sea none Ligurian Sea none marine, harvested by iOBIS. The OOV supported the financial effort of the survey. We are grateful to the crew of the research boat at OOV that collected plankton during the temporal survey. Zooplankton abundance was counted by specialist at OOV under microscopes. The sampling site is located at the entrance of the Bay over a bathymetry of 80m and is thus open to the Ligurian Sea. Samples were collected by a vertical tow from bottom to surface (75-0 m), using a Regent net Data were entered manually to an Excel template. After entry into the Excel template data were transferred to DwC format. The list of species after applying taxonomic quality control, contains the presently valid names according to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS) and the AphiaID is matched against every single species name. Spatial quality control was also performed and the coordinates are provided. EMODnet Simon CLAUS programmer EMODnet (www.emodnet.eu) is a long term marine data initiative spanning seven broad disciplinary themes: bathymetry, geology, physics, chemistry, biology, seafloor habitats and human activities. The EMODnet Central Portal allows users to access data products from each of these lots under one single interface. EMODnet Biology is dedicated to data about biodiversity (www.emodnet-biology.eu). The "Temporal evolution of zooplankton from 1898-1917 and 1966 onwards in the Northwestern Mediterranean Sea" dataset has been compiled under the activity "Data archaeology and rescue", which aims at filling the spatial and temporal gaps. This is a two-part process of first identifying and locating data and then performing the steps required to merge them into a digital database, which further is distributed through EurOBIS, and the EMODnet data portal.
